Default Need help with dye colors: Mesmer mask

I'm fairly new to the game, and I'm having trouble with some colors. I've already searched the forums and found several well-made charts of color combinations, unfortunately none of them seem to help my situation.

I have a mesmer for which I recently acquired the "rogue's" armor, and I would like the mask to match it. The problem is that the armor is a dark blue, and the mask I have (Imposing Mask, Domination +1) is silver with some green highlights. I've discovered that you can only change the color of the highlights, but they don't seem to follow any other color-combination pattern. When I first tried dyeing it blue, i got sort of an aqua-green color. I thought I'd try a different approach and stripped the color (it reverted to the original green) and this time added red: it turned purple. To this I added a blue - and got the same aqua-green I had before. I added a second blue and got more of a turquoise - only slightly more blue than before. I don't want to have to use 20 blues dyes to get one simple color out of this, does anyone have any experience with this particular mask? Or any suggestions as to what to? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

Buy a red and a blue dye, use the red dye on the blue dye and you will get a dark purplish colour to use on your mask .

The reason for this is because your mask is green. Pretend like your mask is green dye, whatever you apply to it is just like mixing it with green dye. Im not very good at colors, so I cant tell you how to make green dye into blue dye, which is basically what your looking for.

If you're able, make a PvP only character and see if you can match it during the creation phase (helped me with necro scar colors). Something else i've heard is to use dye remover on it first to get rid of the standard issue tint, then dye it. Not sure if that will work, but good luck.

I appreciate the suggestion, but this doesn't work for two reasons

1. If this were true, then according ot any color chart I've seen, adding the red to the green would have made brown, not purple. My plan was to add one or two more blues to the brown, which according to the chart would have produced a blue similar to what I needed. When I got purple instead of brown, I added a blue anyway, and insted of a different shade of purple, I got turquoise, so this mask is obviously not following any normal pattern of color combinations.

2. I have another mesmer mask (sleek mask: armor 30, fast casting +1), which is also a base green color. this mask turns the exact color of whatever dye is used, blue dye makes it blue, purple makes it purple, red = red, etc., regardless of the mask being green to begin with

This mask does not appear to follow any pattern, and it reacts differently to dyes than other masks/clothing.

Does anyone have any specific experience with this particular mask and its color idiosyncracies?

I always thought it was the other way around (yellow +blue = green), or are you pointing out an odd combination that works for this mask which doesn't follow the normal rules?

Thanks, I tried this, but clicking on the blue in PvP creation worked just fine, the details showed up the same dark blue as everything else, don't know why it's different with the actual dyes. I tried stripping the dyes, no luck, it still went back to green and affected dyes the same.

um, thanks, that was absolutely useless, pointless, worthless, pick a word since you're so keen on choosing you're own titles

Look, I really appreciate all those who have earnestly responded to my post and have offered reasonable suggestions. When someone says "I know this shouldn't have been posted here," then don't, it's just that simple.

What I really need to solve this problem is someone with specific experience with this particular mask, or any similar item which does not react to dyes in the same manner as other armor pieces. Is there any known pattern to these items? Is there a way I can figure it out without wasting a mountain of dye?
